Cezanne is thought by many to be the "Father" of this
way of working. His work continually tried to play with
the balance between the illusion of "volume" and the very real flatness which which is natural to 2-Dimensional art.
Alberto Giacometti became most famous for his
enlongated sculputures, but his drawings often reflect
a breaking down the outer planes of a subject such as in
the case of this self portrait.
Ewan Uglow is a modern British painter who often
paints the human figure. One can see the influence
of Cezanne in these two paintings, "Pears" and "Seated Woman".
